FBI Releases Photos of Suspects
Offset, legally known as Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was assaulted in the casino’s parking lot on the night of the event. An individual from the group reportedly pulled out a pistol and discharged one round, striking the Atlanta-based artist in the leg. Officials stated the assailants then attempted to steal his watch, but the effort was unsuccessful. He received hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and was released after four days.
Police reports indicate the suspects fled the scene in two Chevrolet SUVs—a matte gray Tahoe and a black Suburban. Investigators, using video evidence and accounts from witnesses, think the Suburban traveled north towards Hollywood, while the Tahoe drove south towards Miami.
In a notable turn of events, the case appeared to have a quick resolution when Seminole Police apprehended rapper Lil Tjay (Tione Jayden Merritt) mere hours after the shooting; he was an initial suspect. Authorities, however, confirmed he faced no charges related to the attack. His arrest was for other offenses, such as disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
A collaborative investigation is being conducted by the Seminole Police Department, the FBI’s South Florida Violent Crime and Fugitive Task Force, and the FBI’s Miami field office. Because the Hard Rock property sits on land owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, a tribe recognized by the federal government, crimes occurring there are subject to federal law.

Offset left the hospital on April 10 and used Instagram to verify his improving condition. The rapper was raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with his future Migos bandmates, Quavo and Takeoff. He has three children with rapper Cardi B, who initiated divorce proceedings against him in 2024. He is also a father to three additional children from previous relationships.
Numerous questions about the event persist, and given Offset’s fame, there has been significant conjecture regarding a motive. One theory that has gained traction involves rumors of the artist having a gambling addiction. To date, the rapper has not addressed these rumors.
